Organic Cedar Dog Shampoo — Flea Defense

Two ingredients in this formula do double duty — and that's intentional.

Organic guar gum makes the formula thicker for two reasons:

Flea defense. The richer lather physically traps fleas during the bath, giving the cedarwood and peppermint essential oils more contact time to naturally deter pests. Think of it as a one-two punch: the guar gum holds fleas in place while the essential oils do their work.

Conditioning and detangling. Guar gum smooths the hair cuticle, making your dog's coat easier to brush and softer to the touch after every bath.

Vegetable glycerine also does double duty:

It's a natural humectant — it draws moisture from the air into your dog's skin and locks it in, keeping the coat hydrated long after the bath is over.

It also contributes to the conditioning effect, working alongside guar gum to leave the coat soft and manageable.
The result: a shampoo that's thicker, more effective against pests, and more conditioning than any other formula in the 4-Legger lineup — while still being concentrated enough that a small amount covers even large breeds.

Yes — when it is high quality, unadulterated, and properly diluted. All of the essential oils in our shampoos meet these three criteria. Peppermint essential oil is a natural antibacterial and anti-fungal that helps balance oily skin, reduce inflammation, and naturally deter pests.

What about cats? We do not recommend using this formula on cats. Cats metabolize essential oils differently than dogs, and peppermint is not well-tolerated by most felines. If you need a cat-safe option, check our unscented formula.

Most "natural" flea shampoos on the market aren't as clean as they look:

• Some popular cedar-scented pet shampoos use sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) as their base — the same harsh detergents found in industrial cleaners — and simply add cedarwood fragrance on top.
• Others register as pesticides, using just 1–2% essential oil as "active ingredients" in a surfactant base with no organic certification.

Our cedar, peppermint, and eucalyptus formula helps protect your dog against fleas in two natural ways:

Essential oil deterrence. Cedarwood oil is one of nature's most well-known pest deterrents. Combined with peppermint oil — another natural repellent — these full-spectrum essential oils create an environment fleas want to avoid.

Physical trapping. The organic guar gum that makes this formula thicker also helps trap fleas in the lather, giving the essential oils more time to work during the bath.

Unlike conventional flea shampoos that rely on synthetic chemicals or registered pesticide ingredients, our approach works with your dog's skin — not against it. For best results, let the lather sit on your dog's coat for 2–3 minutes before rinsing, and bathe regularly during flea season.

Catch your dog. (We know — easier said than done.)

Shake the bottle well to blend the organic ingredients. Wet your dog thoroughly with warm water from head to tail. Squeeze a small amount into your palm — this is our thickest, most concentrated formula thanks to organic guar gum, so a little goes a long way.

Work the shampoo into your dog's coat with your hands and massage deeply. For natural flea defense, let the lather sit for 2–3 minutes so the cedarwood and peppermint essential oils have time to work. To increase suds, add more water — not more shampoo.

Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear. Use a damp washcloth to gently clean the face area.

Tip: If you're switching from a conventional shampoo with synthetic detergents, your dog's coat may go through a brief transition period (1–2 baths) as it adjusts to a genuinely clean formula. This is normal and temporary.

NOTE: If you're new to this formulation, we recommend trying a 2 oz size first.

This is a concentrated formula — a little goes a long way.

Because every dog is different (size, coat length, bath frequency), we don't pin down an exact number. What we can tell you: you'll use far less per bath than you would with a conventional shampoo.

The key is in the application: wet your dog thoroughly, apply a small amount to your palm, and add more water as you lather — not more shampoo. The organic guar gum in this formula creates a rich lather with just a small amount, so resist the urge to squeeze out more.

If you have multiple dogs or bathe frequently, the 1 Gallon size is the most economical choice by far.
