Organic Shea Nut Butter - Shea Butter

Name: Butyrospermum parkii

Extraction: Tree nut fruit extracted

What is Shea Butter?
Shea butter is the fruit of the Shea tree nut. The tree grows in the dry Savannah African climate bearing fruit when it is between 10 - 15 years old. A tree is at full production when it reaches an age of 20 - 30 years old. The average Shea tree can produce nuts for up to 200 years!

Shea Butter Benefits
While there are many different extract methods which can impact the grade of the butter, raw or minimally processed Shea butter is a miraculous beauty, anti-aging and therapeutic lotion that is naturally high in Vitamins A and E.

It has more antioxidants that green tea and boasts six different essential fatty acids. Its high nutrient content makes raw Shea butter useful for everything from hair care to reducing wrinkles and healing scars.

How does Shea butter work?
Shea butter really is amazing stuff.

It is a vegetable (vegan) fat harvested from the nut of the African Shea tree.

This fat, we refer to as "butter", is composed of fatty acids (triglycerides) such as stearic and oleic acids.

Shea butter can be used in balms, salves, lotions, shampoos and moisturizers. It is a natural anti-inflammatory, humectant and emollient (helps to provide and retain moisture).

It is also a great natural sunscreen. The antioxidants and anti-inflammatories make it renowned in its ability to revitalize and heal damaged skin.

Did you know that when your dog's skin is dry and cracked there is an increased risk of infection? Shea butter can naturally help to provide the moisture back to your dog's nose and paws reducing the chances of infection!

How do we use Shea butter?
The 10 phenolic compounds in Shea butter makes it a powerful antioxidant and thus a powerful healer and moisturizer. We use it in our Dog Paw and Nose Healing Balm to moisturize dry skin, soothe skin allergies and accelerate healing. We also use it in our USDA Certified Organic Dog Shampoo!

We also use Shea Butter in our USDA Certified Organic Dog Shampoo!

    Is Shea butter safe?
Our Shea butter is USDA Certified Organic. It is not bleached and is completely safe and non-toxic!

As a side note, as a consumer, you need to be cautious when purchasing Shea butter. There are many different grades and those grades do impact the therapeutic abilities.

What is so special about OUR Shea butter?
Socially responsible sourcing of shea butter saves the lives of hippos
Our responsibly harvested certified organic shea (or karité) butter is sourced from around the Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary (WCHS), a unique community-based project, protecting and preserving the wildlife and the environment of a 40km stretch of the Black Volta River in Ghana's Upper West Region.

In exchange for paying above average prices and giving long-term purchase guarantees for the shea butter, tribal chiefs allow their lands to be certified as organic; preserving one of the two fragile hippopotamus populations in the region.

So, yes, our shea butter is more expensive, but for a good reason!
